Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR)
Small Business Technology (STTR)

The SBIR program, sponsored by 11 federal agencies, is a highly successful program which spends over $3 billion on technology research annually. The program's purpose is to develop and commercialize new technologies that enable the U.S. to maintain its technological competency for defense readiness.

.

Through this program, small technology businesses can secure up to $850,000 in federal funding for research and development projects. They can then leverage those funds into partnerships with research institutions, universities and manufacturers to commercialize new technologies.
 
Eleven federal agencies participate in the SBIR/STTR programs. Each federal agency issues at least one solicitation per year.
 
Businesses compete for:

Phase I Concept Feasibility 6 to 12 months $100,000

Phase II Proof of Concept 2 years $750,000  

w

Phase III Commercialization No government funding
